Lady Panthers lose on last second tip in

Springfield, Mo. -- Chelsea Meeks followed her own missed jumper with a tip-in with 1.1 seconds left, lifting William Jewell to a 59-57 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the Drury Lady Panthers here on Thursday night.

The Lady Panthers had knotted the score at 57-all with Kalea Parks' layup with 31 seconds to go, part of a career-high, 15-point night  for the DU freshman.

But William Jewell played for a final, game-winning shot. Meeks missed her 17-footer with four seconds left, yet after the shot clock expired and the horn sounded, worked her way through a Lady Panthers' defense and inside for the rebound and tip-in of her miss with 1.1 seconds left.

Parks missed a shot from inside half-court in desperation as the final horn sounded, dropping the Lady Panthers to records of 8-10 overall and 2-8 in the GLVC with their second straight loss by two points (following Saturday's 58-56 setback at Missouri-St. Louis).

William Jewell improved to 12-6 and 6-4.

Kylie Williamson had career-highs of 15 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double, and Katie Pritchard also had 15 points to join Parks in leading the Lady Panthers, who lost despite claiming a whopping 50-25 advantage on the boards.

But William Jewell committed just seven turnovers while forcing 18 miscues by Drury, which led 30-24 at the half.

The Lady Panthers led 55-53 with 3:03 to go after Pritchard's 3-pointer, but the Cardinals tied it on two Meeks free throws with 1:06 to go, then took the lead on a Katlyn Wood jumper with 55 seconds to go after DU was whistled for a disputable illegal screen call on Parks in the backcourt.

Parks tied it at 57 all on her bucket inside with 31 seconds left, setting the stage for Meeks' late heroics.

Parks also had a career-high eight rebounds.

Meeks finished with 22 points to pace the Cardinals.

Drury returns home on Saturday to face Rockhurst in a 3 p.m. GLVC tipoff on "Overflow The O'" day, with DU fans encouraged to wear red. Marionville and Skyline high schools will play a preliminary game beginning at 1 p.m.
