Glendale Breaks Record at Springfield Invitational

Springfield, Mo. (For  -- The Foster Natatorium was bursting at the seams Saturday, with swimmers from all over the state attending the 35th Annual Springfield Invitational Swim and Dive Competition. Notre Dame de Sion from Kansas City won the meet with a score of 340.

Glendale, down 60 points after diving, made up 46 points in swimming to place second overall in the meet, with a score of 326.  Glendale’s cross-town rival Kickapoo, finished the meet in 4th place with 184 points.

Steve Boyce, Glendale swim coach, was pleased with the results the Lady Falcons finished with.

“There was lots of great racing today. We swam faster and faster and did what we needed to do,” Boyce said.  “We broke the meet record for the Girls 400 yard free relay with a time of 3:40.73. Lauren Beatty qualified for state in the Girls 200 yard IM with a time of 2:18.49.”

Boyce also oversees the Ozark High School Swim Team. Ozark’s Lyndsey Baker is headed to the state championships in the individual 100 Freestyle. Her lead off split time in the 400 relay today allowed her to qualify.

With the Southwest Missouri Swim Championships and State Championships around the corner, the teams are working hard to close the season on a great note.

Kickapoo’s coach, Pete Hill, was happy with the meet and is looking forward to the next few weeks.

“The girls were tired coming out of the Kansas City Invitational meet. I asked them to be mentally ready if they could not be physically ready. We came close to our best times. We have been working hard. I am looking forward to the upcoming meets and state championship,” Hill said.

The Southwest Missouri Championships begin on February 5th at the Foster Natatorium. State Championships will be held in St. Peters on February 15th and 16th.
