Peru State tops Lady Crusaders



Springfield, MO (Evangel Sports Information)  -- Peru State shot 54 percent from the floor and held off Evangel in the second half for a 66-60 win over the Crusaders Saturday at the Ashcroft Center. 
The Bobcats hit 28 of 52 shots. They did not connect on a three-pointer going 0 for 4 from three-point range and they were just 10 of 17 from the free throw line. Peru State managed to get 13 steals and forced 20 Evangel turnovers.
 
Adaugo Osuala led the Bobcats with 22 points while Courtney Ward had 20 points and 8 rebounds.
 
Sierra McSpadden led Evangel with 23 points while Emily Akins added 20 and went over the 20-point mark for a third straight game.
 
Peru State led 27-23 at halftime and Evangel trailed by just one point, 55-54 with 2:23 left in the game. The Bobcats ended the game on an 11-6 run.
 
The loss was Evangel’s fourth straight and drops their record to 4-10 and 3-5 in the Heart of America conference. Peru State improved to 10-11 and 5-4 in the league.
 
Evangel is on the road Thursday playing at Central Methodist. Game time is 5:30 p.m. in Fayette, Mo.
