Lady Crusaders come up short on the road



Canton, MO (Evangel Sports Information)  -- Evangel guard Emily Akins scored a career high 30 points but Evangel fell three points short on the road with a 56-53 loss at Culver-Stockton Saturday.

 

The Crusaders rallied from seven point behind, 51-44 with 3:34 remaining to pull within two in the final minute of the game but the Wildcats held off Evangel in the closing seconds.

 

Kati Davis and Shelsey Stanley had 11 points each to lead Culver-Stockton. Davis added 15 rebounds as the Wildcats owned a 52-35 advantage on the boards.

 

Akins scored 30 points on 10 for 13 shooting and went 2 for 3 from three-point range in addition to going 8 for 10 from the free throw line.

 

The loss drops Evangel to 4-8 and 3-3 in the Heart of America conference while Culver-Stockton improves to 8-9 and 3-4 in the league.

 

Evangel travels to MidAmerica Nazarene for their next game as they face the Pioneers on Thursday. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. in Olathe, Kan. Thursday night.
