Greenwood outscored Halfway 13-4 in the first quarter and, until a last minute field goal by Kersten Shuler for the Cards, it looked like their only points would come from early free throws by Taylor Moore.

“Halfway beat us by 8 or 9 last year, so this was a good win for us,” said Greenwood’s coach, Kent Hedgpeth. “We shot the ball well [in the first quarter] and like a lot of teams, when we shoot the ball real well, we play a little better defense.”
Greenwood’s momentum wore off in the second quarter, though, as Halfway’s lead scorer, Katy Hensley, led an offensive, putting up 6 points in layups and coordinating her offense to score an additional 7 points.
When asked about the change in pace, Hedgpeth said, “Well, Amy Abdalla got into a little bit of foul trouble and that changed the dynamic of the game a little bit. We had some trouble getting the ball to our offense.”
Halfway continued their charge through the third, scoring 16 points; although Abdalla was back on the court, Greenwood’s lead scorer, Crosby Garrison (17 points), spent some time on the bench.
Greenwood’s scoring in the third quarter, however, was in the capable hands of Kelsey Nau, who, with two 3-pointers, and a couple of field goals managed to keep Greenwood in the game.
Down by a point to start the fourth quarter, Greenwood had both Abdalla and Garrison take the court again and their offensive strategy came back together.
“We wanted to slow it down in the fourth quarter, and it worked well for a little bit, but we got into foul trouble and… Greenwood shot tremendously well tonight,” said Halfway coach Steve Gallivan.
The Lady Blue Jays sunk 7 points from the line and, after taking the lead with five minutes left, held on to win.
