A trio of Hornets found success beyond the 3-point arc Tuesday night and buried the Ozark Tigers 61-42, earning Hillcrest its first home court win in the 2012-2013 season. The scoring started early as the Hornets capitalized on a missed Thomas Nelson 3-point attempt with Hillcrest’s Austin Petry (11 points, 1 assist and a steal) connecting on a long pass to Juwan Johnson (5 points, 1 assist) for a quick two point lay-in. The senior guard’s back-to-back three pointers proved to be a preview of the night’s action, as he was joined on the scoring ledger with two more by classmate Thomas Whitaker and single 3-point buckets by Roy Hardy and Darnell Green-Beckham in a 20-point first quarter.

Evangel could not overcome foul trouble in the second half and College of the Ozarks rallied from five points behind midway through the second half to defeat the Crusaders 80-67 at the Keeter Gym in Point Lookout Tuesday night. Evangel owned a 50-45 lead with 12:31 left but moments earlier were forced to sit out Victor Agbasi and J.J. Williams with four fouls each. The Bobcats outscored the Crusaders 35-17 the rest of the game to pull away for the win. For the second half, College of the Ozarks outscored Evangel 50-33 after the Crusaders had a 34-30 halftime lead.Brodie Wingert led Evangel with 15 points. Zack Kleine and Agbasi added 11. Mike Wiebe had 27 to lead College of the Ozarks while Nathane Simniok posted 26. Evangel dropped to 9-4 while College of Ozarks improved to 10-3. The Crusaders moved to #18 in this week’s NAIA-I national poll.
