“Our defense did a good job tonight and really stopped Collins. That’s Hadley Blake. That’s what she does. She just shuts down the other team’s best player” said Branson head coach Kip Bough. “Our effort tonight was where it’s always been. Our kids played hard. Our effort from all nine kids, getting after them, just dogging them, just kind of wore Catholic down a little bit.”
Bough has also been pleased with the play of newcomer Forrest.
“She gives us something we didn’t have the last couple of years. She can penetrate and get to the bucket,” said Bough.
Catholic was led in scoring by 5’6 senior forward, Madison Robertson with 11 points. Emma Thomas, a 5’3 junior guard added 10. The Lady Irish only trailed 9-6 after the first quarter but a 9-0 run fueled by Dapprich and Forrest had the Lady Pirates up 30-16 at halftime.
“We got a little break in that we didn’t see much of Dapprich in the first quarter and we hung with them and did some things we needed to do. But she’s the area MVP for a reason and she kind of changed the whole game when she came back in,” said Lady Irish head coach Josh Miller. “All of a sudden we couldn’t do what we normally do. Our two best scorers combined for only 13 points and that’s going to be a tough night for us. And we couldn’t play man to man defense all night because we didn’t have any help side defense, so we struggled with that. But we hung in there, we fought, we tried to get better at certain things and we did. But it’s a night we’ve got to learn from, improve on, and move on.”
Branson won an abbreviated JV game 26-20.
