Volleyballs Kaley Lyons named NAIA All-American

Springfield, MO (Evangel Sports Information)  -- Evangel University volleyball player Kaley Lyons was named a 3rd team NAIA All-American.

The Springfield, Mo. and Glendale High School product is the first Evangel volleyball player in program history to be named an All-American for a third time. Lyons was an honorable mention All-American as a sophomore and a Second Team selection as a junior.

Lyons led the Heart of America conference with 4.1 kills per set, was second in the league with a .303 hitting percentage and she was fourth in blocks averaging 1 per set.  Lyons became Evangel’s all-time leader in kills last season and ended her career with 2,015 shattering the record by more than 300 kills. She also set a career record at Evangel in kills per set (3.88).

She was named a First Team All-Conference selection for the fourth time in her career and is the only player in program history to be named to that honor in all four years of her career. With Lyons, Evangel made their first NAIA National Tournament appearance in 2009, won their first ever conference tournament during the same year and won their only HAAC regular season title in team history going 10-0 in 2010. Evangel went 106-35 during her four years while posting a 31-7 mark in the conference.

The All-American award is the ninth such honor in Evangel volleyball history. Lyons has won three of the awards (2012, 2011 and 2010). Others include Briana Walsh (2011), Julie O’Dell-Griffith (2008, 2007), Brittni Harris (2006, 2005) and Kelly Hartley-Richardson (2003, 2002).

Evangel finished the season 22-14 and 7-2 in the Heart of America conference finishing in third place.
