St. LOUIS -- Missouri State senior forward Whitney Edie was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week Monday (Dec. 3), becoming the first Lady Bear this season to earn the league’s weekly women’s basketball honor.

Edie had doubles-doubles in each game last week and averaged team-highs of 18.5 points, 14 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 33 minutes in the two MSU wins.

Thursday in MSU’s overtime victory against Oral Roberts, the Exeter, Mo., product had 15 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, including the game-tying bucket with 18 seconds left in regulation and four points and an assist in overtime.

Saturday, the senior set career highs with 22 points, 16 rebounds and five steals as MSU defeated Northern Kentucky. Edie had 16 points and nine boards after halftime in that contest.

Edie now has five double-doubles on the season, one behind the national lead, and averages 16.3 points and 10.6 rebounds on the year.

The Lady Bears (5-2) return to action Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. when they visit Columbia, Mo., to renew the series with Missouri for the first time since 2004.
