Greenwood boys must replace 80-percent of their scoring

Springfield, Mo. (OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- Greenwood enters this season with many unknowns after losing 80-percent of its scoring from last season’s 21-8 team to graduation. One constant will be head coach Darren Taylor as he enters his ninth season at Greenwood and 22nd overall.

Head Coach – Darren Taylor (158-71 at Greenwood; 409-149 in 22 seasons overall)

2011 Record- 21-8

Returning Players:  Nathan Carmichael (6’3 senior who averaged 7 points and 3 rebounds per game last season); Riley Keith (6’5 sophomore); Mason Priest (5’11 junior); T.J. Hinch (6’1 senior); Celabe Morlan (6’0 junior)

Players to Watch – Alan Shen (6’0 senior); Ben Aiken (6’0 junior); Skyelar Hughlett (6’0 sophomore); Adam Brock (6’2 Sophomore); Austin Carmichael (5’10 freshman)
2012 Outlook

Tim Looney averaged 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists last season and his production will be sorely missed, but the inexperienced Blue Jays will have to adjust quickly.

“We lost 80-percent of our scoring and rebounding to graduation and the incoming players will have to adjust to varsity basketball very quickly,” Taylor said. “They have a strong work ethic and I believe they can make that adjustment.  I think we will be very competitive throughout the season.”

One strength the Blue Jays will have is a bit of size.

“We have good overall team size and hope to utilize that advantage,” Taylor said.
