Buffalo wrestling to be inexperienced

Buffalo, Mo. (For OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- With a roster comprised of primarily first-year wrestlers, the Buffalo Bison will be in rebuilding mode this season. First-year head coach Eric Nolan takes the reins, and will be looking for immediate contributions from some inexperienced wrestlers.

“We have a young and inexperienced team this year, with a number of first-year wrestlers,” said Nolan. “At this point, we’ve not gone through the competitive process that determines varsity positions. A majority of the team consists of freshman and sophomore athletes, so I feel that our juniors and seniors will be vital to our team through their leadership.”

One wrestler that Nolan will not have at his disposal this season will be Derick Harris, who graduated last spring as one of the most decorated wrestlers in Bison history. Harris became just the third wrestler in program history to notch 100 career victories, and earned a 4th-place finish at the MSHSAA State Wrestling Championships a year ago.

“The key to this season will be to gain experience and interest in the sport,” said Nolan. “We will constantly seek to improve at the individual and program level. We’ve got a group of athletes that are willing to work hard and learn, but lack of experience is our biggest weakness. I’m excited to be part of this program. One of our goals is to build a respectable and consistent program, which takes time. We will experience a number of challenges, but I think the team is taking a realistic approach to the season.”
