Evangel Women fall short against 23rd ranked Williams Woods

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Playing without all-conference guard Emily Akins, Evangel hung close but could not pull ahead of 23rd ranked William Woods in a 60-54 loss at the Ashcroft Center Friday.

 

Evangel forward Sierra McSpadden led the Crusaders with 21 points and 10 rebounds while Jessica Rumfelt also chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.

 

Ashlee Taylor led the Owls with 16 points.

 

Evangel trailed 28-25 at halftime and was outscored 32-29 in the second half. William Woods pulled 11 head with 3:02 remaining but the Crusaders rallied and a three-point play by McSpadden pulled Evangel within four less than a minute later.

 

Evangel fell to 0-4 playing their third nationally ranked team in four games. William Woods improved to 4-0.

 

Evangel is at home again Monday taking on John Brown (Ark.) at 6 p.m. at the Aschroft Center.
