Kickapoo volleyball duo sign with Division I schools

Kickapoo's Maris Below and Emily Thater have been playing volleyball together for a long time, so it was only fitting that they signed side-by-side with their colleges of choice on Thursday.

"I have known Emily for a while now. We have been playing volleyball together for forever it feels like," Below said. "It felt really good to sign together and it meant a lot."

Below, a First-Team All-State selection this year, will be heading to Miami of Ohio to continue her career. Thursday's cermony represented a culmination of her all her hard work up to this point.

"It feels like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders," Below said. "It feels good to accomplish one of my biggest goals."

Thater, an honorable mention All-State selection, felt a similar weight lifted after signing on the line with the University of Missouri.

"I have been a verbal for a long time, so now that I am officially a Missouri Tiger it is the greatest feeling ever," Thater said.

Thater has hopes of being a factor for the Tigers sooner rather than later.

"I hope I will be contributing at a middle blocker position immediately," Thater said. "That is all subjective, but I hope I can get it done for them as soon as I can."

Kickapoo finished the year as district runner-up to the eventual Class 4 third-place finishing Ozark Tigers
