The Nixa High School softball team is starting to build a pipeline toward Warrensburg.
Lady Eagles softball senior Alex Leonhart signed with Division II Central Missouri on Wednesday. She’ll join two former Nixa teammates, Emily King (2012) and Jakki Prater (2011), on the Jennies.

"I enjoyed playing with them in high school, so I'm sure college will be even better," Leonhart said. "They're just awesome people to be around and I'm looking forward to it."
Leonhart helped Nixa win district titles in 2009 and 2010, and finish 14-11 this fall. She was a second team all-Central Ozark Conference Large Division pick for 2012.
Lady Eagles coach Matt Walker described Leonhart, a third baseman, as someone who will “do anything that you ask of her, and she'll keep herself and her teammates in line.”
Leonhart said she took multiple trips to the UCM campus.
“The buildings are old and pretty,” she said. “The campus is beautiful and the perfect size; it’s not too big or too small.”
Central Missouri finished 27-30 last spring and 29-25 in 2011. Prater had a big freshman season for the Jennies, starting all 57 games and leading the team in hits (55) and slugging percentage (.473).
Leonhart, who also pitched for Nixa, says she’ll be an infielder for UCM.
"If you go in and work hard, everything will take care of itself," Leonhart said. "I just wanna be a good team player and do whatever I can to help the team out."
