The Comets were 14-13 overall last season but had to deal with injuries near the end.
“We lost three seniors last year and played the second half of the season fighting injuries to some of our better players,” Dishman said. “If we continue to work hard and be tough mentally, we have a chance to win some games this season.”
Dishman views the Mid-Lakes Conference as one of the toughest leagues in the area. For Marionville to improve upon its .500-level record, the Comets must “care of the basketball, value each possession and get better defensively to win a close game,” he said.
Adding to what should be a tall front court for the Comets are Geoffrey Stafford (6’2”, JR., F) and Geren Reavis (6’3”, F). Junior Seth Smith and sophomores Jordan Floyd and Chase Stanton round out the backcourt depth chart.
“I can tell you this, we will play for four quarters and we will battle on the boards,” Dishman said.
The Comets open the season Nov. 20 at Greenfield. They return home to host the Marionville Tournament the week of Nov. 26 before an early test at defending Class 2 champion Billings on Dec. 4.
Marionville’s conference opener is Jan. 11 at home versus Pleasant Hope.
