Missouri State opens season with 89-61 win

SPRINGFIELD -- The Missouri State Bears (1-0) celebrated their youth in the 2012-13 season opener by letting those freshman score.

Freshman Gavin Thurman (Wichita, KS) had 19-points on 8 of 13 shooting including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc as the young Bears topped Philander Smith 89-61.

Fellow freshman Marcus Marshall (St. Paul, MN) was 9 for 10 from the free throw line and added 16-points to the Bears victory.

Redshirt freshman Drew Wilson showed the JQH Arena crowd he can play Bears basketball.  Wilson was 6-for-6 from the floor with 12-points and 11-rebounds.

Senior Anthony Downing each chipped in 12-points for the Bears with Wilson recording a double-double.

MSU went on a 12-4 run in the first 3-minutes of the second half to put some distance between them and the Panthers (1-1).
