Republic senior Alice Heinzler signed to play basketball for the College of the Ozarks on Wednesday in Republic. Heinzler led the Tigers in scoring last season as a junior and was instrumental in Republic's Class 4 State Championship.
The Women's Basketball program at the College of the Ozarks has played in the NAIA National Championship game four times in the last seven years. That winning culture is something that drew Heinzler.
"If you have been on a winning team most of your life it is going to be hard to go to one that doesn't," Heinzler said. "I didn't really look into C of O, but when but when I did I (thought) this was the school for me. It is a winning program like they said. Out of the last seven years he has brought his team to four national championship (games). I am hoping to win one up there in the next four years."
She was also swayed to sign with the Bobcats for reasons outside of basketball as well.
"I just think that going from Republic to going there is a really great experience and I feel like I will fit in there," Heinzler said. "They are a Christian conservative school and I think I will just make a lot of good friends there."
