Rogersville freshman Allie Pell followed up her district title from last weekend with a 20th place finish in the Class 3 State Cross Country meet in Jefferson City on Saturday.
Pell was a little apprehensive after her first visit to the tough state course on Friday.

“Yesterday when I ran it I was really afraid of the hills and the finish,” Pell said.
Her goal on Saturday was to not worry about the intimidating course, but to focus on the things she could control.
“My coach just told me to run my race and just basically keep up with the front pack,” Pell said.
She held onto that front pack as she went through the mile in 12th place. She faded a bit in the middle of the race, but was able to bounce back well at the finish, which is a bit uncharacteristic for the freshman.
“I was expecting a lot of people to pass basically at the finish line, but I kind of wasn’t me and finished really strong,” Pell said.
Pell ran a time of 20:18.97 to secure her All-State finish.
Bolivar’s girls team was the highest finishing local team in ninth place.
On the boys’ side, Buffalo junior Jonathan Murphy was the highest finishing boys runner in 39th place in a time of 17:37.26.
The Bolivar boys finished in 12th in the team competition.
