In leading Hillcrest to an 8-1 record, quarterback Jonah Hill has drawn some comparisons to a certain former Florida quarterback.
"People like to say that I'm the Tim Tebow of the quarterback position," said Hill
The comparison is somewhat understandable. Both quarterbacks are just as likely to run over you as they are to beat you with their arm. But then again, quarterback isn't Hill's natural position. He played tight end for the Hornets last season, but when head coach Joh Beckham approached him this year about moving under center, he was all for it.
"He told me that they might need me at quarterback this year. I was like, 'Let's try it out.'"
His coach tells the story a little differently. "I didn't really give him an option or choice," laughed Beckham. "I just told him how it was going to be. For our team this year the best thing was to have Jonah at quarterback."
And Hill has delivered, taking a team that lost the best player in the nation after last season, to a conference co-championship this year.
"We know we don't have the most athletic team, but we have the players who have the passion for the game," said the Arkansas State commit.
You can include Hill among those passionate players, but this year passion wasn't enough. He also had to grow into a leadership role.
"Jonah hasn't always been a leader while he's been here, but sometimes leadership is thrust upon you," said his coach.
"I'm a little bit of a goofy kid, but this year that's changed a lot. Some people won't like what you say, but if it makes the team better that's what you have to do."
Hillcrest senior Jonah Hill is this week's Arby's High School Athlete of the Week.
