State golf roundup: Jung finishes 5th



Springfield, Mo. (OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- The final round for the 2012 Class 1 and 2 girls’ golf state championships took place on Tuesday.

Class 2

Glendale sophomore Sun Jung finished alone in fifth place. Jung shot a 79 on Tuesday, one stroke better than her round on Monday, at the par 73 Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau.

She was six strokes behind winner Amanda Kim of Ft. Zumwalt South, who had a two-day score of 153.

Elsewhere, Joplin’s Samantha Stout shot 169 and finished in seventh place. West Plains’ Courtney Cox shot 173 to help the Lady Zizzers finish sixth as a team. Teammate Kelsey Temple tied for 17th.

Lebanon’s Pavin Jackson finished in a three-way tie for 27th. Also in a three-way tie were Camdenton’s Mackenzie Griffin and Republic’s Allison Quigley, who each shot 184 to sit at No. 30.

Class 1

The Mount Vernon High School girls’ golf team took fourth place at the 2012 Class 1 state championships in New Bloomfield.

The Lady Mountaineers shot 385 as a team on Tuesday, 15 strokes better than their score on Monday, to finish with a two-day mark of 785. But they were still well behind title winner Westminster Christian Academy, who had a final score of 669.

Mount Vernon sophomore Ashley Childers had the top local finish as she tied for 10th place, tallying a 173. Westminster’s Brooke Cusumano and Jordan Wolf finished 1-2 with a 154 and 157, respectively.

Rogersville freshman Lyndsey Standage shot a 178 to tie for 16th. Buffalo’s Taylor Abraham was 25th overall.
