RB Tommy Meyer named HAAC Offensive Player of the Week; K Drew OCain wins HAAC Special Teams Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Evangel running back Tommy Meyer helped the Crusaders to a 54-44 upset win over 6th-ranked Benedictine on Saturday evening. Monday Meyer was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference offensive player of the week.

He rushed 24 times for 184 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner from three yards out with 1:54 remaining. His rushing total was the second-best of his career in a game where he also had two receptions for 38 yards and threw a pass for 23 yards.
Evangel (3-2) visits Graceland University Saturday October 13th with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

K Drew O’Cain was named the HAAC Special Teams Player of the Week. The Colorado Springs set an Evangel record for longest field goal in program history hitting a 53-yard field goal with 14 seconds left in the first half of Saturday’s game. O’Cain hit two field goals in the game running his career total to 32 made field goals tying Evangel’s all-time record pulling him even with Chris Nowels (1990-92). O’Cain saw his streak of 38 consecutive point-after-touchdown kicks end on Saturday. He had already set the school record with the streak but when Benedictine blocked his first PAT attempt Saturday, it was his first failed attempt since Nov. 6, 2010. O’Cain accounted for 12 points in the game on Saturday. It marks the second time he has been named a league Player of the Week this season and is the fourth of his career.

.The Crusaders are at Graceland this Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff in Lamoni, Iowa.
