Power Rankings: Men's Soccer for Sept. 30

The top five remained the same in this week's power rankings for soccer.  Catholic dropped its first game in over a year, but holds on to the top spot.

1. (1) Springfield Catholic (13-1)
Despite Catholic dropping its first game in more than a year this weekend at the Gateway Classic to Marquette of St. Louis, the Irish are still in the top spot in my rankings. However, the road doesn’t get any easier this week as Catholic visits Rogersville and Ozark.

2. (2) Kickapoo (9-1)
Kickapoo also dropped a game in the Gateway Classic, falling to nationally ranked Marquette Jesuit from Milwaukee 1-0.  The Chiefs rebounded by winning their next two games of the tournament. This week, Coach Hodge's squad will jump back into Ozark Conference play with huge games against Joplin and Glendale.

3. (3) Nixa (9-3-1)
Nixa went 0-2-1 this weekend at the Gateway Classic; however the Eagles get to come home and host Willard before going to the Kickapoo Shootout next weekend.  Nixa star Robert Neathery also became the all-time leading scorer for the Eagles.

4. (4) Joplin (11-1-1)
Last weekend Joplin lost to Jefferson City, its first loss of the season, but bounced back for OC wins over Camdenton and Parkview. The Eagles host Carl Junction before traveling to Springfield for a showdown with Kickapoo.

5. (5) Carthage (10-3-1)
Carthage also struggled at the Gateway Classic going 1-2 over the weekend.  The Tigers jump back into COC-Large play this week at home against Branson, before hosting Cassville in nonconference action.

6. (7) Branson (10-3-1)
Branson continued its stellar play last week, defeating Neosho and Greenwood.  The road this week is a little tougher as Branson visits both Carthage and Glendale.

7. (9) Carl Junction (9-3)
Carl Junction continues to be the surprise team of 2012, picking up wins last week over Webb City, Aurora and Kansas rival Pittsburg.  This week the Bulldogs visit Joplin in what will be their biggest test of the season.

8. (8) Osage (10-2)
The Indians went 2-1 in last week’s Camdenton Tournament, including a thrilling 6-5 win over Ozark.  Robbie Mueller and company visit  Dixon and a very good Crocker team next week.

9. (NR) Glendale (5-4)
After falling out of last week’s poll, the Falcons are back thanks to a great showing at the Gateway Classic. Next week Glendale renews its rivalry with Kickapoo in a huge OC tilt.

10. (6) Bolivar (11-4)
Josh Condren and company went 2-1 in this weekend’s Willard Classic, falling to Rogersville.  Next week the Liberators host Marshfield before stepping out of conference to visit Willard.

Knockin’ on the door: Greenwood (4-3), Camdenton (6-6), Springfield Central (9-4), Rogersville (6-4), Waynesville (6-3)
