Evangel hosts 6th ranked Benedictine Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Following a 73-17 loss at Nicholls State (NCAA-I, FCS) Evangel (2-2) returns home and to Heart of America conference play hosting Benedictine Saturday for a 6 p.m. kickoff at JFK Stadium.

Evangel's offense has been solid averaging around 450 total yards per game.  Against Nicholls QB Andrew Brimhall led Evangel with 198 passing yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. WR Jesse Vaughn had 6 receptions and 88 yards.

The Crusaders defense will be tested against Bnedictine (4-0).  The Ravens have scored 40 or more points in all 4 of their victories.

Evangel Head Coach knows a win over Benedictine would be a big step towards a possible conference championship and playoff berth.

"We've got 4 teams in our league that are top 10 type teams," said Illum.  "We have to beat 2 of those 4 to get a chance at the playoffs and this is our next chance, so we have to throw everything we've got into it."
