Power Rankings: Men's Soccer for Sept. 23

Springfield, Mo. (OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- Catholic remains atop the Men's Soccer Power Rankings this week and two new teams enter the rankings.

1. Springfield Catholic (9-0) -
Catholic continues its dominance, extending its unbeaten streak 38-0-1. The Irish picked up three impressive wins last week, two over Carthage and one over Bolivar. Next weekend the Catholic will be in action at the Gateway Classic in St. Louis.

2. Kickapoo (6-0)
The Chiefs were 3-0 last week, including a double overtime thriller over Nixa. Along with Catholic, Kickapoo will being play in the Gateway Classic.

3. Nixa (7-1)
Despite Kickapoo handing the Eagles their first loss, Nixa is still an extremely talented team. Next week the Eagles will play Waynesville before jumping back into COC-Large with a huge game against Ozark.

4. Joplin (8-0)
Joplin continued its perfect season last week defeating Glendale and Central. The one negative for the Eagles was that the Falcons ended their scoreless streak at 6 games. Joplin is in the loaded Jefferson City Tournament.

5. Carthage (8-2)
The bad news, Carthage lost to Springfield Catholic twice last week. The good news, unless they meet in next weekend’s Gateway Classic, they won’t have to play the Irish again for the rest of the season.

6. Bolivar (8-3)
After starting the season with seven straight wins, the Liberators dropped games to Catholic, as well as Clinton and Branson last week. Bolivar will take on Rogersville in COC-Small play before next weekend’s Willard Tournament.

7. Branson (8-2-1)
The Pirates are one of two new entries to the power rankings this week. Despite losses to Kickapoo and Ozark, Branson won the Monett Tournament and was the runner-up in the Bolivar Tournament. The Pirates are looking like a contender in the COC-Large picture.

8. Osage (8-1)
The Indians are making their first appearance in the power rankings. Osage boast one of the most explosive offenses in the area, thanks in large part to the state’s all-time leading goal scorer Robbie Mueller. See video of Mueller's record-setting game below:

9. Carl Junction (6-3)
The Bulldogs have dropped a few spots since last week’s rankings, thanks to losses to Branson, Neosho, and Willard; all three losses were by one goal. Fortunately, Carl Junction was playing up a class in all of those games.

10. Ozark (7-5)
Ozark has lost five of their last 7 games, causing them to fall in this week’s poll. Next week it doesn’t get any easy as the Tigers will travel to Nixa to take on the Eagles in a COC-Large clash.
Knockin’ on the door: Greenwood (4-3), Camdenton (5-5), Springfield Central (4-3), Neosho 5-5, Rogersville 5-3, Waynesville 5-2
