Nicholls State Runs Away from Evangel



Thibodeaux, LA (Evangel Sports Information)  -- THIBODEAUX, LA – Nicholls State (NCAA-I, FCS) pulled away from Evangel in the second half for a 73-17 win at home in front 6,022.

 

Evangel answered two early Nicholls State touchdowns with a 78 yard scoring pass from Garrett Swann to Otis Brown to trail 14-7 with 9:01 left in the first quarter.

 

The Colonels led 24-7 after the first quarter and led as much as 38-10 in the first half when Evangel put together a late first half drive and scored on a 36 yard touchdown pass from Andrew Brimhall to Mitch McHenry with 23 seconds left in the second quarter.

 

The Crusaders were shut out in the second half while Nicholls State added three touchdowns in the third quarter and two more in the fourth.

 

Colonels QB Tuskani Figaro rushed for 134 yards on 13 carries with 3 touchdowns while RB Marcus Washington rushed for 110 yards with 2 touchdowns.

 

Brimhall led Evangel with 198 passing yards going 13 for 25 with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. WR Jesse Vaughn had 6 receptions and 88 yards.

 

Evangel returns home and to Heart of America conference play when they Benedictine next Saturday for a 6 p.m. kickoff at JFK Stadium.
