Bracey leaves Missouri State basketball program

Missouri State men’s basketball head coach Paul Lusk announced today (Sept. 16) that junior guard Tevin Bracey, a transfer from Westchester (N.Y.) Community College, has withdrawn from the University for personal reasons and will return to his home in Bronx, N.Y.

Lusk said that even though Bracey’s sudden departure from the MSU program came as a surprise to him and his staff, he supports his player’s decision.

“Tevin is going through some difficulties in his personal life and has decided to step away from basketball and school at this point," Lusk explained. "We will continue to support Tevin and wish him nothing but the best.  He's a good kid and it's been a pleasure to work with him.”

Lusk also noted that Bracey is in good academic standing and will be released from his scholarship.

“I just need to go home and regroup," Bracey explained. "Basketball has become secondary right now, and I am not playing at my best level with the distractions in my life. I am grateful to Coach Lusk and appreciate the opportunity to be part of Missouri State. The coaching staff and teammates here are great, and I would not change anything about my decision to come here.”

Bracey said he would like to continue his basketball career down the road, but won’t begin looking at options until spring. He signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bears on April 30, 2012 and participated in the team’s summer workouts and practices in advance of the Bears’ August trip to Costa Rica. He played all four games on the Costa Rica trip and averaged 3.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds on the tour.
