New Marshfield coach counting on senior class

Marshfield, Mo. (For OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- Coming off a 5-19 season, the Marshfield Bluejays boys’ soccer team is armed with a new head coach in 2012.

Tom Searson, who previously had successful runs coaching the Lebanon girls’ soccer team, is getting to know his new team and six seniors.

“I’m excited at the prospects for this season,” Searson said. “Being new to Marshfield High School I’m still getting to know the players and the program’s history.”

Despite the rough season in 2011, the ‘Jays are just two years removed from a competitive 10-11 season in 2010. Marshfield seniors this year are Koty Jones, Shane Singleton, Christian Harden, Lucas Cheeney, Sean McCorkle and Robert Norton.

“We have a good core group of seniors who will bring experience to this year’s team,” Searson said. “I’m looking to these seniors to step up and help lead. We have a lot of players who need experience, and the seniors could do a lot to help bring them along.”

The ‘Jays will open the upcoming season on Aug. 27 against Hillcrest, a program that won two games in 2011, then face Fair Grove on Aug. 30.

“This team could really do something special this year with dedication and hard work,” Searson said. “I’m looking forward to what this year has in store for these guys and I hope it will be a positive experience and we can improve on last year’s results.”
