Monett seniors looking to lead the way

Monett, Mo. (OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- Video Platform Video Management Video Solutions Video Player

****Monett head coach Chad Depee is hoping it all comes together in his 3rd year as head coach.  The Cubs return a talented senior class from a group that made the playoffs last season, falling to Pea Hill 14-6 in the class 3 regionals.

HEAD COACH - Chad Depee, 3rd season

2011 RECORD - 5-6, lost to Pea Hill 14-6 in class 3 regionals

RETURNING STARTERS - 5 offense, 5 defense

PLAYERS TO WATCH - Kurran Blamey (Sr. RB/WR), Aaron Hall (Sr. RB), Kyle Woods (Sr. QB), Reese Bounous (Sr. OL/DL), Matt Murphy (Sr. LB)

The Cubs have been in rebuilding mode sing Chad Depee took over 3 years ago, and believe this could be the year it all comes together.

"We're excited about the 3rd year," said Depee.  "We're excited about our big senior class, and we're expecting some great leadership from them.

Injuries depleted the offense last season, but senior quarterback Kyle Woods is back healthy this fall.

"It's nice to have Kyle back healthy.  We expect guys like Kurran Blamey and Aaron Hall to be a year better as well.  We expect leadership from them and for them to be work horses for us."

The Cubs must replace a few spots on the line vacated by graduation, and will turn to senior Reese Bounous to lead that group.

"It starts up front.  We've got Reece and some other guys competing to see who's going to step in those shoes vacated by seniors."

It figures to be another stacked year in the Big 8 Conference, a group that has produced 3 state champions in the past 4 seasons.

"If you have an off week in the Big 8 you're going to have a tough time."

Monett opens August 24th at Mt Vernon before hosting Neosho August 31st.
