Parkview sprinting toward a successful season

Springfield, MO (Ozarks Sports Zone)  -- The Parkview Vikings cross country squad plans bring yet another successful season this fall. Coach Dan Hay, in his fifth year as head coach, has high hopes for his runners.

“We had a very good season last year, qualifying three runners to the state cross country meet,” Hay said. “Both the guys and girls had a good showing throughout the season, and we hope to bring that momentum back this year.”

Graduated senior and all-state runner Keaghan Economon placed 10th at state, marking the best finish ever of any cross country runner in Parkview’s history.

Junior Cameron Byrley finished 40th and sophomore Monica Lingbeck placed 44th at last year’s state meet. They both are contenders for more success this year, as well as key leadership on Parkview’s club.

“Our teams this year have a good chance to shine even more than last year. The girls do lack depth from small numbers, but we hope to see them make it to state,” Hay said. “Our guys are solid as well, but all the teams in our district are very talented, so we expect to be competitive and see significant improvement.”

Seniors Emily Courtney and Sayra Villela both missed qualifying to state by less than one second last season. They hope to relinquish that bitter taste as they anticipate for a better outcome this upcoming season.

Junior Erica Batson, sophomores Chloe Ragain and Cady Kelly and freshman Cecila Villela are to also watch this season, as they bring rising talent to the Vikings.

“Our team loves to run and are very passionate about it,” Hay said. “The work ethic these runners put forth is tremendous.  Hopefully we all can stay healthy and injury free."
