Evangel women take trip to Guatemala

Springfield, Mo. (KSPR)  -- The Evangel University women’s basketball team returned from Guatemala earlier this week.

Members of the basketball team, coaching staff and members of the athletics department flew into Honduras on Sunday and traveled by bus to Guatemala.

The team worked with El Faro Ministries working with children’s ministries and conducting basketball camps in the town of Punta de Palma. Evangel’s volleyball team visited the same facility last January.

This is the first international ministries trip for women’s basketball.  The Evangel Athletics Ministries (TEAM) headed by Chad Gehring, organized the trip.  TEAM was established by the Evangel University Athletics Department in 2009 and provides Evangel student-athletes the opportunity to serve local agencies and experience short-term international ministry trips.
