Wildcats break records, advance to district championship

Rogersville, Mo. (For OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- Rogersville advances to the district final championship game against Republic after a record setting 42 point night from Corbin Medley as the Wildcats beat West Plains 77-67.

“I wanted to do what the team needed,” said Medley. “I wanted to step up and help in any way possible to get the win.”

Medley made nine consecutive three point baskets in the first-half, missing only four field goal attempts in route to breaking a six year old Logan-Rogersville record for total points in a contest  as well as a 15-year old record for nine made three pointers in a game.

“We didn’t want the game to be that free flowing on offense,” said Rogersville head coach Rod Gorman. “But we couldn’t get stops, but fortunately for us we were able–especially Corbin- to get the ball into the basket.”

“They’re a good shooting team and they’re going to win a lot of games if they’re going to shoot like that,” said Zizzer coach Kevin Smith. “I thought we had a good game plan but that second quarter set the tone.”

Medley’s offensive fire from beyond the three point arc was shared by Justus Boever, who ended the night a perfect two of two from behind the arc and had the second highest amount of points from the floor with 10. Coach Gorman credited Boever’s defensive presence in limiting the effectiveness of West Plains’ forward Taylor Gill, who was limited to four points at half time.

“Taylor’s a big force for us,” said Coach Smith. “Rogersville did a good job shutting him down earlier in the season, and though we still are pretty balanced offensively, it’s going to hurt if we don’t have an inside scoring threat.”

Cole Butler and Justin Davis led the Zizzers in scoring with 14 apiece, with Davis being the third most successful from long distance with two three pointers behind Medley and Boever.

West Plains ends the 2012-2013 Season 15-12, while Rogersville will face off on in the class 4 district 10 final against 22-4 Republic at 7:30 p.m. on Mar. 2. The Wildcats beat the Tigers in double overtime on Jan. 25th.
