5 Area Wrestlers Bring Home State Titles

Southwest Missouri brought home a quintet of titles at the State Wrestling Tournament at Columbia's Mizzou Arena this weekend.

Rogersville senior Sam Zimmer won his 3rd title at 130 pounds.

Ozark sophomore Dylan May helped the Tigers to a 4th place class 3 finish by winning the 135 pound division.

Waynesville senior closed out a strong career with a win at 135 pounds in class 4.

Monett's Ethan Davis capped off a perfect season with a class 2 140 pound title.

Lebanon senior Dave Stewart became the 2nd straight Yellow Jacket to win the class 4 heavyweight title (Justin Britt, 2009). 

 

State Wrestlers win championships; Glendale second in state swimming

The Missouri state championships for both wrestling and swimming were held this weekend in Columbia and St. Peters.

At the swimming and diving championships in St. Peters, Springfield Glendale finished as state runner-up in second place for the second straight year while Springfield Kickapoo, who beat Glendale in the All-City championships, ended up in 12th place at state.

At the state wrestling meet in Columbia, Ozark High School finished 4th behind Neosho in Class 3 with Rolla 7th. Seneca won the Class 1 title.

Individually there were several state champions from the KY-3 viewing area. Sam Zimmer of Logan-Rogersville captured the state crown in the 130-lb. division of Class 2. Monett's Ethan Davis took the 140-lb. division in that class.

There were four area winners in Class 3 including Dylan May of Ozark at 135-lbs., and Neosho's Trevor Hughes, Joe Barnes, and Blake Stauffer at 119, 112, and 171-lbs. respectively.

Two area athletes won state titles at the Class 4 level. Waynesville's Eric Mateo at 135-lbs and Lebanon's Dave Stewart at 285-lbs.

Congratulations to all the area athletes who made it to state and to those who won state titles as well!!
