No player in Missouri high school basketball history has ever scored more career points than Miller's Hannah Wilkerson.
Wilkerson entered Thursday nights game in Morrisville just 10 points shy of former Morrisville and Marshfield standout Melissa Grider's all-time mark of 3,211 points.
The night began with a lot of nerves, but Wilkerson calmed those with a long 3-pointer in the opening minute.
She then followed with a rebound putback and a driving layup through 3 Lady Panther defenders.
In the 2nd quarter Wilkerson cut the deficit to just a single point with her baseline jumper.
Then came the big moment. Wilkerson broke the record with the first of 2 free throws. The game was stopped to honor the achievement. Grider was on hand to hand Wilkerson the ceremonial game ball.
"It was best moment I've had in a while," said Wilkerson. "I was really happy to have my family here tonight."
The night was made even more special when Wilkerson went into the stands to hug her 95-year old great grandmother Maxine Morris, a former basketball player in the 1930's who was watching Hannah play high school basketball for just the first time.
Grider spoke to the crowd and was very gracious in passing the torch.
"Hannah is amazing," said Grider. "She really deserves it."
Wilkerson finished the night with 30 points in the Miller's 75-54 win.
She has at least 10 games to pad the record before heading to the Missouri State this Fall. The record stood for 19 years and may take another two decades to break...or maybe never again.
