St. Louis slugger Matt Adams to rehab in Springfield

Rookie first baseman Matt Adams is on the road back to the Big Leagues.  The St. Louis Cardinals announced Tuesday that Adams will begin a Minor League rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield beginning Friday.

Adams was put on the 15-day disabled list after suffering a strained right oblique, an injury that caused him to miss several weeks during his 2011 Texas League MVP season in Springfield.

Adams was off to a torid start this season, going 13 for 34 with 3 home runs and 8 rbi, while playing in a backup role.

Springfield wraps up a short road trip at Northwest Arkansas Friday before returning to Hammons Field fort he weekend.  Adams could return to St. Louis as early as Tuesday when the Cardinals open a series in Chicago.
