Sports Commission and O-Zone announce 1 Awards



The Springfield Sports Commission and KY3, Inc. have combined to present a high school sports awards banquet unlike any other.

The 1 Awards will be unique in that, you, the fan will finally get your say on who the best athletes in the Ozarks are.

The voting process will allow fans, athletes and communities to have a say in choosing the “1”:

1. Four nominees are chosen in each category based on a combination of honors, statistics, team success, individual performance and citizenship.  Nominees will be selected following each of the fall, winter and spring seasons, and will be contacted of their selection in early June.

2. Fans may vote for their choice at OzarksSportsZone.com.  Voting is from June 3 - July 22.  Fans will be allowed to vote one time per day.  A bio of each athlete/team or category will be provided.  

3. Winners will be announced at the event on the night of July 30, 2013. 

"We're thrilled to team with the Springfield Sports Commission on this event," said KY3 Inc. Executive Sports Producer Mike Scott.  "It's exciting to not only honor these deserving athletes in all sports, but to allow the fans to have 100% say in who is the winner."

Nominations for the four athletes in each category will be made by both the KY3, KSPR and O-Zone along with the Springfield Sports Commission. After that, the final decision will be in your hands as deciding who the most deserving athletes are.

a.    High school athletes within the KY3 Springfield area DMA (designated market area) are eligible for nomination and selection as the 1. A list of possible nomination categories includes, but is not limited to:

3.    How are the winners chosen?
a.    Nomination process:
Four athletes from the Springfield area DMA are selected in each sports category.  These categories are shown in FAQ 2. There will be specialty award categories, too. The 11 person Ozarks Sports Zone staff and Springfield Sports Commission representatives will compile the candidates based on a combination of honors, statistics, team success, individual performance and citizenship.  Nominees will be selected following each of the fall, winter and spring seasons and will be contacted of their selection in early June.
b.    Voting process:
Fans may vote for their choice at OzarksSportsZone.com.  Voting begins June 3 and runs through July 22.  Fans will be allowed to vote one time per day.  A bio of each athlete will be provided.  The online results of the contest are 100% decided on fan voting.  Winners will be announced at the event on the night of July 30.   

4.    How will I know who has been nominated for the 1 Awards?
a.    Nominees will be notified before the voting process by their school’s athletic director. After the nominees have been notified, nominees will be posted on the Springfield Sports Commission (SpringfieldMOsports.org) website and O-Zone website (OzarksSportsZone.com). Voting will ensue June 3.

5.    When are tables and tickets available?
a.    Tables are currently on sale, and may be purchased by contacting: sports@springfieldmo.org
b.    Tickets to the 1 Awards will be sold closer to the event (price per ticket, $25).

6.    I’m a business or organization and want to be involved. How can I do this?
a.    Sponsorships are in the form of traditional sponsorship, table sponsorship or program advertisements. Inquiries can be sent to sports@springfieldmo.org    

7.    Where and when is the 1 Awards?
a.    The ceremony is at the Ramada Oasis Convention Center on July 30. This will be an evening event.

8.    Since this is an evening event, will there be food and beverage?
a.    There will be arena-style food stations featuring taste creations from the chefs of Ramada Oasis Hotel and Convention Center. Lemonade and tea will also be available. Ozarks Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper Bottling Company will provide soft drinks for the night.  The food and drink is included with ticket purchase.

9.    Rules and Regulations
a.    All athletes must come from high schools in the designated market area of KY3, Inc.
b.    Voting will only take place from June 3-July 22. Votes will not be accepted outside of this time frame or through any other medium than the proper online polling.
c.    Fans will be allowed to vote one time per day.
d.    The online results of the contest are 100% decided on fan voting.
e.    1 Awards committee has the authority to remove an athlete from the contest in cases such as school official’s request, criminal activity, etc.
f.    Springfield Sports Commission, KY3, Inc. and all associated parties are not liable for internet/voting issues.
g.    Results and decisions by 1 Awards selection committee are final.
