Skyline boys win at Buffalo

Buffalo, Mo. (For OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- The Skyline Tigers traveled south down Highway 65 Tuesday night to pay a visit to rival Buffalo. Things could not have gone better for the Tigers, while things could not have gone worse for the Bison, as Skyline left town with a dominating 71-34 victory. Skyline used a balanced scoring attack in the victory, with four players in double figures. Senior Jared Freddie led the team with 13 points, while Tyler Curts added 12 and Dylan Mountain and Jordan Edge 11 apiece.

Freddie hit a pair of first quarter 3-pointers, and teammate Logan Bryan added another, as the Tigers jumped out to an early 19-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Skyline dominated the second quarter by a 23-6 count to lead 42-18 at halftime. Buffalo scored a couple of early baskets in the third quarter, but Skyline outscored the Bison 19-6 in the quarter to lead 61-24 at the end of three.

“We wanted to work the ball around and find quality shots,” said Skyline head coach Buck Shockley. “We knew they weren’t very deep, so we wanted to make them guard us. We tried to wear them out and get quality shots. That was our game plan going in and we executed it to perfection. It was the first game that we have played well all 32 minutes in a long time.”

On the other side, senior Calvin Dryer scored 16 points to lead the Bison, but Buffalo had too many turnovers and no answer for Skyline’s second and third quarter haymakers.

“They executed their possessions and we didn’t,” said Buffalo head coach Scott Miller. “That’s the bottom line. They fought for offensive rebounds. They had too many second chance points. That was the difference right there.

“We’ve been doing a better job on the boards,” added Miller. “We’re not very big, so we really have to work on rebounding. Tonight, we reverted back. We have to continue to get better on the boards, and we had way too many turnovers.”

Buffalo will travel to El Dorado Springs Friday night, while Skyline will face Windsor in the State Fair Shootout on Saturday.
