Seymour standout Braythan Helms signs with Evangel basketball

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Evangel University women’s basketball has signed guard Braythan Helms from Seymour High School for the 2013-14 season. Helms averaged 17.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.4 assists per game last season for a Seymour team that finished 25-4. She was a starter in her junior year on Seymour’s Class 3 Final Four team in 2012. That team went 30-2 with their only losses coming in the state semifinal game and the state third place game.

“We are looking for Braythan to come in and be a three-point threat,” said Evangel head coach Leon Neal. “She knows how to work hard and carry a team with her scoring.  Braythan is from a program that has had a great deal of success getting to State and she will bring that same hard working mentality to our women’s basketball program as well.”

Helms was a second team All-State performer in Class 3 in the MSHSAA coaches voting and was a first team all-state selection by the Missouri State Coaches Association. She was also an all-conference and all-district performer. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the National BETA club.

The Evangel women’s basketball program has announced six signings so far for the 2013-14 season including Williams. Other signees include: G / F Samantha Williams (Bluejacket HS, Bluejacket, Okla.), C Allison Swanson (Millard North HS, Omaha, Neb.), F Kristen Moore (Lighthouse Christian Academy, Springfield, Mo.), G / F Brianna Robinson (Garland HS, Garland, Tex.), and G Jamera Sandifer (Heritage Christian HS, Brookfield, Wis.).
