SBU announces 2013 Hall of Fame class



Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Department of Athletics has announced its 2013 SBU Athletics Hall of Fame Class.  This year class features five inductees.  The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held January 25, 2013 in the Intramural Gym in the Meyer Sports Center at 6:00.  Tickets will be made available in December. 

Jim Klousia, '76
Tennis

Was a 4-time SBU letter winner…4-time NAIA District 16 selection…4-time NAIA National Championships participant…ranks 2nd all-time at SBU with career singles victories at 105…was head tennis coach at Missouri State University for 28 years…was second-longest tenured head coach in Bears’ athletic history when he retired in 2006…guided Missouri State to ten conference championships in three different leagues…named conference coach of the year six times…Member of the Missouri State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

Harold Burton, '67
Men’s Basketball

Helped leaded SWBC to its first NJCAA National Tournament appearance…averaged 23 points per game in the National Tournament…was a 1st Team All-Region pick in 63-64…was a 2nd team All-Region pick in 64-65…was recruited by numerous Division I schools including Tennessee and Ole’ Miss but chose to stay at SBU during transition to the NAIA classification…also played baseball at SBU and hit the first home run in the programs history…Was instrumental in the start up of the SBU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1980…Lifetime supporter of SBU Athletics who has been instrumental in success of many student athletes.

Ron White, '69
Basketball, Baseball

Played basketball from 67-69…In 34 career games scored over 500 points…played in only 11 games in 67-68 but scored 183 points…was an 80% free throw shooter in his career…played baseball from 67-69…served as SBU’s first full time assistant basketball coach…was Head Baseball coach at SBU from 76-78…led team to school’s first 20 win season…finished with a 58-40 career record…was a very successful high school coach in the area for many years.

Women’s Basketball

Had one of the most decorated careers in SBU Women’s Basketball history…played in three NCAA National Tournaments…ranks 4th all-time in points scored with 1380…ranks 6th in field goals made…all-time leader in free throws made and free throws attempted…is 3rd all-time in steals…ranks in the top 5 of seven different single season statistics…two-time unanimous All-MIAA First Team selection.

Cross Country/Track and Field
Ran cross country and track from 2003-2007…2 time NCAA All-American in ’05 and ’07 (Indoor T&F Mile)…10 time MIAA individual champion (once in cross country, 6 times Indoor T&F, 3 times Outdoor T&F)...Six time NCAA National Qualifier…All-Region in Cross Country in 2003…2007 Indoor T&F MIAA High Point Scorer…Holds schools records in outdoor 800 meter, 1,000 meter, and 4x800 meter relay and indoor mile run, 5,000 meter run, distance medley relay, and 4xmile relay.
