SBU Men drop season opener to Wayne State



Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU men’s basketball team opened up their season with a tough loss on Friday night, dropping the game against Wayne State College 66-43 in the SBU Classic season opening tournament.

Gilbert Gyamfi led the way for the Bearcats scoring a team high 9 point from 3 of 5 shooting from the field and 1 of 3 from beyond the ark.  Damion Hooks and Jayon’e Troutman both added eight points for SBU.   Jalen Loving led the Bearcats with a total of 6 rebounds and collected 5 points for the Bearcats.  As a team the Bearcats collected 12 assist with 6 of the coming from returning point guard Preston Guiot.

After coming off a hard opening game loss, the Bearcats are still excited for the season.  Coach Tina Guiot commented in her interview, “this team does not lack effort they don’t lack heart and they give everything they have.”

The Bearcats will be back in action on Saturday, November 10 when they take on Minnesota State-Moorhead in the second round of the SBU Classic.  The game will be held at Meyer Sports Center and is set to tip-off at 8:00 p.m.
