Parkview fends off Tulsa Central

Springfield, Mo. (For  -- Erik Durham led all scorers with 22 points to lead the Parkview Vikings to a 50-40 victory Friday over the Tulsa Central Braves.  This matchup was the second of the night in the Parkview Classic.

The only other Viking to score in double figures was AJ Green scored as he had 10 points.  Green also had 5 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 4 assists.  Darris Perry helped out with a solid 7 point, 6 rebound and 6 assist performance.
Parkview started the game on an 11-2 run and led 25-19 at halftime. Tulsa Central cut the deficit to 2 with 2:50 left in the game.  Parkview’s coach Bill Brown called a timeout to calm his team down.

“We just needed to relax,” said Brown.  “We were throwing too long of passes, allowing them to use their speed and get to the ball, which led them to get back in the game.”

Parkview ended the game with an 8-0 scoring run, all from free throws.

“They fought hard,” Durham said. “But I believe we can do whatever we want as long as we come out and do what coach Brown tells us to do.”

Delvon Lucas led Tulsa Central with 11 points.  Three other players added 9 points each for the Braves.

Parkview is now 3-0 on the year and play Ozarks Conference foe West Plains in a non-conference, tournament championship game on Saturday.

“To be honest, we are just going to go in there and play our game,” said Green about playing West Plains on Saturday.  “It just helps that we will get a sneak peak about West Plains and we will know what to expect when we play them again.”

Tulsa Central will play the Wichita Defenders in the first game on Saturday at 1:30, with the Parkview and West Plains game following at 3.
