Parkview Ladies too much for Central

The Class 5, District 12 tournament is underway at Parkview High School and the Lady Vikings are doing their part to not get ousted on their home floor.

Parkview started Monday night’s semifinal matchup on a 10-0 run and rout their cross town rival, the Central Lady Bulldogs, 62-38.

“We came out in the first-half with high defensive intensity,” said Parkview coach Keri Nichols.  “It really got our offense going and got the pace of the game in our favor.”

The Lady Vikings put on a scoring clinic, due in large part to their defense, in the first-half and put up 48 points.  Parkview junior Aubrey Buckley scored 24 points to lead all scorers on Monday night.

“This is a great win,” said Buckley.  “We picked up our defensive intensity throughout and which led to easy buckets.”

Lady Viking Kianna McDaniel helped out Buckley by scoring 16 points of her own, including four 3-pointers.  Point guard Tyra Moore chipped in with 10.

“A lot of players scored for us tonight,” said Nichols.  “And I believe that was because of our defense getting a lot of turnovers on their side of half court which translated into easy buckets.”

Parkview forced 16 first-half turnovers and used its height advantage to outrebound the Lady Bulldogs 31-20 for the game.
Central was led by junior Savannah Rush with 15 points.  No other player scored in double figures.

Central ends its season with a record of 5-20.  The Lady Bulldogs will lose Malyshia Hogan and Hannah Steinmetz next season to graduation.

Parkview improves to 17-9 and will face Willard at 6 pm on Thursday night for the district championship.
