O-Zone Prep Spotlight: Kelsie Cleeton, Hillcrest Basketball

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Hillcrest Lady Hornets are just 6-7 this season, but with just four seniors and a strong nucleus of young players the future looks bright for Jeni Hopkins' North Siders.  Among those young talents is 5'7" sophomore guard Kelsie Cleeton.  We caught up with Kelsie in this week's O-Zone Prep Spotlight.

Kelsie is a 3-sport athlete at Hillcrest, playing softball in the fall, basketball in the winter and soccer in the spring.  But the passion for athletics doesn't stop there.

"I like to go fishing with my dad and hang out with family and friends," said Cleeton.

MORE O-ZONE ARTICLES ON KELSIE CLEETON

FAVORITE ATHLETE - Lebron James (He is just a stud!)

FAVORITE MOVIE - Love and Basketball

FAVORITE FOOD - Anything Mexican

FAVORITE ACTOR - Will Ferrell (He is hilarious.)

MOST DISLIKED ATHLETE - Kobe Bryant (Because he is cocky and cries about everything.)

FAVORITE TEAM - North Carolina Tar Heels

Kelsie has a long way to go in the prep ranks, but plans to continue her education in college.

"I'm not sure what I want to be when I grow up.  I have thought about being a basketball coach because I love the game so much, but who knows!"

Kelsie earned 2nd team All-Ozark Conference honors last year in softball and 2nd team All-District in basketball as just a freshman.  Averaging 20.4 points, 4.7 assists and 5.9 rebounds, Kelsie is establishing herself as a force in the Ozarks for the next couple of years, but her focus is on the team.

"I would like to lead my team to a district title before leaving high school.  I want to just be the best player I can be and leave Hillcrest knowing I tried my best in everything I did."

Something people may not know about Kelsie is that she has a twin sister, Kaelyn.

"We look nothing alike, we are fraternal and she also plays basketball."

Kelsie's cousin Taylor Parhman is currently Hillcrest's all-time leading scorer, but that record could change hands in a couple years.

Hillcrest continues its season Monday January 21st hosting Fair Grove, a rematch of a game they lost 57-51 last month at the Pink and White Lady Classic.
