Mountain Grove girls look forward to a strong season

Springfield, Mo. (OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- Mountain Grove finished .500 last year at 13-13. This year second-year head coach Courtney Devault has designs on much more.

“We have very high expectations. We had a bumpy year last year with several changes,” Devault said. “We feel this year we will take off right where we left off.  We had a very successful summer. We all seem to be on the same page and very goal oriented.”

The Panthers return their two leading scorers from last season in senior post Maddie Halford and junior guard Ashlynn Rogers. Both players averaged right around 12 points-per-game and garnered All-Conference selections.

Sadie Dugger, a 5-foot-6 guard sophomore guard, is also back after averaging 7.1 points per game as a freshman. Fellow guard Kamber Collins scored 4.2 points-per-game last year as a sophomore and will be back.

Seniors Nicole Hale and Whitney Fox also return.

Some new faces to watch for the Panthers are Austyn Shannon, Ryana Allen and Nichole Fletcher will be factors.

The Panthers will look to get up and down the court and create offense off of defense.

“We hope to be a team that disrupts everyone with our defense,” Devault said. “We love to play pressure defense and need it to create a lot of points for us.  We have a lot of speed and we like to get out and run.”
