Monday state golf roundup



Springfield, Mo. (OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- Day one of the Missouri high school girls’ golf state championships teed off on Monday.

Class 1

Sophomore Ashley Childers of Mount Vernon and freshman Lyndsey Standage of Rogersville have the top local scores after round one.

Both shot an 86 at the par 72 Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield. They trail first-place Brooke Cusumano of Westminster Christian Academy by 11 strokes.

Mount Vernon is fourth in the team standings, 70 strokes behind first-place Westminster.

Buffalo’s Taylor Abraham carded a 90 and is in a five-way tie for 17th. The final rounds for Class 1 and 2 are Tuesday.

Class 2
Glendale's Sung Young Jung is the top area golfer after day one of the tournament as she shot an 80 to be tied for fourth. She is seven strokes back of the leader Amanda Kim of Ft. Zumwalt South.

Joplin's Samatha Stout is sitting seventh with an 84 to open her day. The West Plains duo of Kelsy Temple and Courtney Cox are eighth and 11th after day one to lead the Zizzers. As a team, West Plains is sitting sixth.
Lebanon's Pavin Jackson is the only other area golfer in the top 20 with her opening 88 to sit tied for 14th.
