Lady Indians grab conference win in a thriller



Strafford, Mo. (For OzarksSportsZone.com)  -- Mid-Lakes Conference leaders met tonight in an explosive matchup. The top ranked Fair Grove Lady Eagles traveled to meet the second ranked Strafford Lady Indians for their final regular season game. After an aggressive back-and-forth the game, the Strafford Lady Indians emerged the victor, 64-61.
The Indians took the lead early and led by as much as eight in the first-half. Fair Grove continued to press, slowly closing the scoring gap. A bad pass by Strafford allowed the Eagles to take the lead at half, 27-25.

Fans couldn’t have asked for a more exciting second-half as the score went back-and-forth between the two teams. Strafford pulled out the win in the last minutes of the game with some well-placed three point shots.
 
Strafford Coach David Brewer was pleased with the way his team performed.

“This was an intense game. We were ranked number two in the district. We played number three Monday night, and number one tonight,” said Brewer. “We made our free throws and our baskets tonight. It was a good game.  We play Hollister in the first round of districts which starts on Monday.”

Fair Grove Coach Jenny Talbert was quick in her remarks.

“We made mental errors. They made some big shots and we didn’t respond properly,” said Talbert.

Fair Grove had two players in double digits. Morgan Kensinger scored 25 points and DeAmba Pilkinton had 21.

Strafford has an 18-8 record and is 3-3 in Mid Lakes Conference play. Fair Grove has an 18-8 record and is also 3-3 in Mid Lakes Conference play.

Strafford faces Hollister, and Fair Grove takes on Forsyth in the opening round of the Class 3 District 11 tournament.
