WEEK 8 ROUNDUP
PICTURES: BEST OF WEEK 8
(Last week in parenthesis)
1. Webb City (1) - The Cardinals' annual scare turned out to be just another game. The 2-time defending state champs ran their regular season winning streak to 89 with a 28-7 home win over previously undefeated Ozark. The Cardinals can make it an even 90 this week, wrapping up the regular season at Branson.
2. Strafford (4) - Make it 8-0 for the Indians after Saturday's 36-0 win over University Academy. Coach Hester's club has locked up at least a share of the Mid-Lakes title. Strafford wraps up the regular season hosting Ash Grove for the KY3 Game of the Week before opening district play. That district is going to be a whole lot of fun, including undefeated Mountain Grove and SCA power MV-BT/Liberty. Also congrats to senior Kory Noe who set the school sack record with 12 this season.
3. Cassville (2) - The Wildcats are 8-0 after Friday's 43-7 road win over Aurora. The amazing part about this season has been just how much this team has overcome. Injuries have decemated Coach Large's offense and defense, most notably Friday night when senior Garrett Kirk was seriously injured late in the win. We are told Kirk is doing well following emergency surgery for a ruptured spleen. Unfortunately, his playing career is done, but you can bet Garrett will be there to cheer on his teammates this week as they travel to Mt Vernon.
4. Miller (5) - The Cardinals ran their 2012 record to 8-0 Friday night with a 28-0 win over Highway 39 rival Greenfield. It was the lowest point output by the Miller offense this season, but possibly its most suffocating defensive effort. The Cardinals wrap up the regular season this week going for the outright Spring River Valley title at 7-1 Sarcoxie, who lost out of conference to El Dorado Springs last week.
5. Mountain Grove (6) - The Panthers offense has been nothing short of amazing this season, including Friday's 68-26 win over Houston. MG goes for 9-0 this week at perennial SCA power Thayer. A win their would lock up the SCA title, but it just the beginning as the district playoffs are on the horizon featuring 8-0 Strafford and 6-2 MV-BT/Liberty.
6. Skyline (7) - The Tigers bounced back nicely from their lone loss to Strafford with a 38-7 win over Marionville. Skyline goes out of conference to face Tipton to wrap up the regular season. Things don't get any easier in the playoffs as the Tigers' district includes 7-1 Midway and Drexel.
7. Hillcrest (8) - The Hornets ran out to a quick 14-0 lead Friday night and never looked back, improving to 7-1 with a 34-20 win at winless Rolla. Only a home matchup with 3-5 Waynesville stands in the way of the Hornets second straight Ozark Conference title (shared with either Parkview or Lebanon). The other good news is Hillcrest will host its first two playoff games. The bad news is the third one would almost certainly be at Webb City.
8. Ozark (4) - The Tigers got a rude awakening in Friday night's 28-7 loss at Webb City, something head coach Mark Bliss is taking as a positive heading into postseason play. The Tigers are still certainly among the best class 5 teams in the state, and will have a great shot at reaching the quarterfinals.
9. Lebanon (9) - The Yellow Jackets used solid defensive play and a handful of big plays on offense to down Kickapoo 20-6 Friday night. That win sets up a 7-1 showdown with Parkview in the KSPR Game of the Week Friday. There's a whole lot of weapons in that game.
10. Parkview (NR) - The Vikings reeled off 47 straight points after trailing West Plains 7-0 early last week. The 47-7 win sets up an OC showdown in Laclede County Friday night. Ruff vs. Brackett... Jenkins vs. West... Steinmetz vs. Martin. Let's get it on!
Knocking on the door: Carthage, Bolivar, MV-BT/Liberty, Sarcoxie
