High School Football: Week 8 Power Rankings

The OzarksSportsZone team will compile the area's top 10 teams each week of the season.  The rankings are based on dominance by class.

WEEK 7 ROUNDUP
PICTURES: BEST OF WEEK 7

(Last week in parenthesis)

1. Webb City (1) - The Cardinals took care of business Friday with a 55-0 blasting of Neosho for their 88th straight regular season win.  Every year one opponent comes along that gets people talking, "is this the one who finally beats mighty Webb City?"  Ozark is that team, as the Tigers visit Roderiqueville with a spotless 7-0 mark.

2. Strafford (4) - The Indians all but locked up the Mid-Lakes title with Friday's 41-32 slugout win against previously undefeated Skyline.  Junior quarterback Jacob Wade was part of all six Strafford TDs.  Coach Hester and the tribe get an extra days rest this week as they go out of conference to host University Academy in a Saturday matinee.

3. Cassville (2) - The Wildcats had no trouble in a 42-0 win over winless East Newton Friday, and have now ran their regular season win streak to 36 straight.  Next up, Coach Large and company hit the Big 8 road to reeling Aurora, who will be hungry after dropping 4 straight.

4. Ozark (5) - The Backyard Brawl trophy returns to the east side of Christian County as the Tigers ran their record to 7-0 with a 41-21 win over Nixa in front of a packed house at Tiger Stadium.  There was certainly no looking past the rival Eagles.  Now can the Tigers regain focus for Saturday's COC Large showdown at 2-time defending state champ Webb City.

5. Miller (6) - The Cardinals also improved to 7-0 with Friday's 48-7 domination of Jasper.  Miller has had only one close game so far this season.  Don't expect that to change this week against northern neighbor Greenfield, but get ready for a great one week 9 at fellow unbeaten Sarcoxie.

6. Mountain Grove (7) - The Panthers demolished Salem 48-7 in what was dubbed as an SCA showdown.  MG is playing some really strong fundemental football led by first year head coach Rich Johnson.  The Panthers are also fully utilizing their skill players with Bobby Otwell and Tyler Collins each rushing for over 125 yards last week.

7. Skyline (3) - The Tigers finally met their match in Friday's 41-32 setback at Strafford.  The Tigers led early, but were eventually overtaken by the Indians on a frigid night of football.  We expect Coach Shelby's squad to bounce right back this week against Marionville and make a deep run in the class 1 playoffs.

8. Hillcrest (9) - Hillcrest senior QB Jonah Hill will be telling his grandkids about the night he fought off undefeated Parkview on just one leg.  The hobbled Arkansas State recruit came off the bench to lead the Hornets back for a 29-19 Thursday win over the rival Vikings.  Hillcrest finishes the regular season with Rolla and Waynesville, which should likely lock up the number 2 seed in districts.

9. Lebanon (NR) - Can't deny the Yellow Jackets this week.   Lebanon moves back into the top 10 after a 28-24 road win over class 6 Joplin.  Brock West continues his pursuit of the school rushing record this week at Kickapoo.  Friday should be a good one against the quietly improving Chiefs.  Week 9, the Jackets host Parkview in what will likely be for a share of the Ozark Conference title.

10. Sarcoxie (NR) - The Bears have scored at least 40 points in their last 4 games, including last week's 41-20 win over Liberal.  Sarcoxie goes out of conference this week to host El Dorado Springs before a Spring River Valley throwdown with Miller.

Knocking on the door: Parkview, Catholic, Nixa, MV-BT/Liberty
