Feb. 20 Girls Basketball Power Rankings

Springfield, Mo. (OzarksSportsZone.com)  --

The O-Zone Power Rankings are compiled by the staff each week based on a team's relative dominance by class.  The schools are not compared head to head, but rather by how strong they are against similar competition as well as current momentum.

1. Walnut Grove, 24-2 (2)
Walnut Grove’s quest for another trip to Columbia got underway uneventfully Monday, as they trounced Sheldon 88-12. However, Heather Harman did break the 1,500 point barrier in that game. The Lady Tigers will play Lockwood Wednesday night in the semifinals of Class 1 – District 5.

2. Crane, 25-3 (3)
The Lady Pirates own the area’s longest winning streak (along with West Plains) at 16 games after a pair of district routs over Galena and Spokane. Up next for Crane in the Class 2 – District 12 title game is Marionville… It is the fourth time the two have met, with Crane taking two of three.

3. Republic, 23-1 (1)
While their quest for a perfect season is over, the hunt for a second consecutive state championship is just about to heat up. Republic, who was beaten at home by a very good Ozark team 53-46, has its regular season finale Thursday at Glendale before starting Class 4 – District 11 play as the top seed.

4. Ozark, 19-6 (5)
The COC-Large champs are getting hot and at the right time. Ozark has won six straight, including wins over Nixa, Republic and Branson. Ozark is the top seed in Class 5 – District 11 and will play the winner of Glendale and Kickapoo.

5. West Plains, 25-1 (4)
The Lady Zizzers completed an unblemished Ozark Conference slate on Monday when they topped visiting Parkview on senior night in a game that Andi Haney scored her 2,000th point. West Plains and its 16 game winning streak will play the winner of Aurora and Rogersville in the Class 4 – District 11 semifinals.

6. Skyline, 21-6 (6)
The Mid-Lakes Conference champs opened Class 2 – District 13 play in style, blowing out Lincoln 77-20. Awaiting the Lady Tigers is Adrian, with a likely matchup with undefeated Archie for the winner.

7. Ash Grove, 21-6 (8)
Ash Grove is healthy and hitting its stride. The Lady Pirates opened Class 3 – District 12 play with a runaway win over Sarcoxie. A rematch with a very good Southwest team awaits them in the semifinals. Ash Grove defeated Southwest 64-44 back in December.

8. Chadwick, 22-5 (9)
The Mark Twain Conference champs have won 11 straight, including a 76-41 win over Hurley in the Class 1 – District 4 semifinals. The Lady Cardinals, who are yet to lose to a Class 1 team, take on Verona Thursday in the championship.

9. Dadeville, 23-2 (10)
The Lady Bearcats have won five straight, including a 61-19 beatdown of Golden City in the Class 1 – District 5 quarterfinals. Dadeville is a semifinal win over Fair Play away from setting up a highly anticipated rematch with Walnut Grove.

10. Crocker, 24-2 (11)
The Lady Lions continue to impress as they have won 14 straight. Class 2 – District 9 play has offered them little opposition, they won their quarterfinal and semifinal games by a combined 69 points. Crocker will take on Laquey in Friday’s championship game.

11. Seymour, 23-3 (13)
The Summit League champs bounced back from a disappointing loss at home to Walnut Grove with a pair of impressive showings against Pleasant Hope and Norwood. The Lady Tigers are the top seed in Class 2 – District 10 and play Bakersfield in Wednesday’s semifinal.

12. Nixa, 21-5 (14)
The Lady Eagles bounced back from a pair of tough losses to Republic and Ozark with a pair of wins over Webb City and Willard. Nixa, the No. 2 seed in Class 5 – District 11, will open district play with Branson.

13. Southwest (Washburn), 24-3 (15)
The Lady Trojans have won 14 straight en route to capturing an Ozark 7 championship. A 67-34 win over Diamond in the Class 3 – District 12 quarterfinals set up a rematch with the aforementioned Ash Grove Lady Pirates.

14. Webb City, 20-5 (12)
The Lady Cardinals have one loss this season to teams not known at Ozark, Republic, or Nixa. Webb City, who closes its regular season Thursday at Aurora, is the top seed in Class 4 – District 12 and will take on the Carl Junction/McDonald County winner in the semifinals next week.

15. Pierce City, 19-8 (NR)
The Lady Eagles have won nine straight on their way to garnering the Spring River Valley Conference title. Pierce City’s last two losses (Crane and Marionville) will be their sectional opponent if they can successfully navigate Class 2 – District 12 where they are the top seed.

Knockin’ on the door: Thayer (20-4), Parkview (16-9), Marshfield (15-11), El Dorado Springs (18-7), Mount Vernon (18-8), Marionville (20-7), Strafford (19-8), Fair Grove (17-7), Blue Eye (17-7), East Newton (18-9), Weaubleau (21-5), Sparta (19-7), Bolivar (17-7)
