Feb. 13 Girls Basketball Power Rankings

The O-Zone Power Rankings are compiled by the staff each week based on a team's relative dominance by class.  The schools are not compared head to head, but rather by how strong they are against similar competition as well as current momentum.

1. Republic, 21-0 (1)
The Lady Tigers hiked their win streak to 27 straight with wins over Willard and Nixa. Up next for Republic is arguably its toughest week of the season with the pseudo COC-Large title game Thursday against Ozark, followed by a trip to Class 4 No. 5 Dexter.

2. Walnut Grove, 22-2 (2)
The Lady Tigers have won nine straight and are hitting their stride just in time for district play. Walnut Grove, who closes its regular season Thursday at home against Clever, is the top seed in Class 1 – District 5.

3. Crane, 22-3 (3)
Crane picked up a pair of big time wins over Ash Grove and Sparta. The Lady Pirates, winners of 13 straight, haven’t dropped a game in the new calendar year. Class 2 – District 11 will look to change that next week.

4. West Plains, 23-1 (4)
How good is West Plains? The Lady Zizzers have defeated Ozark Conference foes by an average of 24 points per contest. The potential Class 4 – District 11 championship between West Plains and Republic can’t get here soon enough.

5. Ozark, 17-6 (10)
Ozark blew past rival Nixa in the Christian County throw down to set up a clash of titans Thursday at Republic for the COC crown. Get your popcorn ready.

6. Skyline, 19-6 (6)
Skyline dropped its first Mid-Lakes game Monday night at Ash Grove. Despite the loss, the Lady Tigers will still take home at least a share of the conference title even if they fall to Pleasant Hope in Thursday’s season finale. Kevin Cheek’s squad will have their hands full in Class 2 – District 13 where they are the top seed over undefeated Archie.

7. Thayer, 19-3 (9)
The Lady Bobcats finally landed on this week’s state rankings after pushing their winning streak to five games with a win over Salem. Thayer is the top seed in Class 2 – District 2, earning them a first round bye.

8. Ash Grove, 19-6 (7)
Ash Grove split a pair of games with state-ranked Class 2 teams Crane and Skyline. The Lady Pirates will close the season at home against Marionville on Thursday. Unfortunately for opposing teams, Lakin Simmerman is back.

9. Chadwick, 20-5 (11)
Maddie Hursh has the single-season record for 3-pointers made, the Lady Cardinals haven’t lost to a Class 1 team all-season, and winners of nine straight. Do the happy dance if you are from Chadwick, and enjoy the well-deserved first round bye in Class 1 – District 4.

10. Dadeville, 22-2 (12)
Dadeville topped Stockton on Tuesday night to avenge its first loss of the season. Next up for the Lady Bearcats to handing Walnut Grove a little payback in the likely Class 1 – District 5 championship tilt.

11. Crocker (22-2) (NR)
The Class 2 Lions have only lost to Class 4 Bolivar and league rival Dixon this season. They won the Frisco League Tournament and Crocker Lady Lions Invitational as well. Crocker has a game with Richland on Thursday to round out the regular season.

12. Webb City, 19-4 (13)
Last week Webb City slid six spots due to being one of the only teams to lose. This week, the Lady Cardinals climb thanks to a pair of impressive wins over Branson and Carthage. Thursday’s tussle with Nixa will likely be as close as the first installment that Nixa took 52-48.

13. Seymour, 22-3 (5)
Seymour had its 14 game winning streak snapped in a blowout loss to Walnut Grove in the championship game of its own tournament. The Lady Tigers set season futility records in points (36) and turnovers (27) in their worst loss of the season.

14. Nixa, 19-5 (8)
It was a tough week for the Lady Eagles, who fell to both Republic and Ozark. Unfortunately, Thursday’s home game against Webb City won’t get any easier.

15. Southwest (Washburn), 22-3 (14)
Southwest is ranked (No. 10 in Class 3), hot (winners of 12 straight), and in a loaded district (Mount Vernon, Ash Grove, and East Newton. Something’s gotta give…

Knockin’ on the door: Parkview (15-8), Fair Grove (17-7), Pierce City (16-8), Marshfield (14-11), El Dorado Springs (16-6), Bolivar (16-6), Mount Vernon (16-8), Marionville (18-6), Strafford (16-8), Blue Eye (15-7), East Newton (16-9), Weaubleau (19-5)
