EU mens basketball wins 20th game of the season



Kansas City, Mo. -- Evangel matched a season-low point total of 56 points but managed a 56-46 win at Avila Thursday night.

 

The win was Evangel’s seventh straight win and their 12th win in 13 games. It also marked the Crusaders’ 20th win of the season giving Evangel their eighth consecutive 20-win, a program record.

 

J.J. Williams led Evangel matching a season high 16 points. Jayme Donnelly added 12 points and Stephen Cotten along with Victor Agbasi both had 11.

 

Sedrick Johnson led all scorers with 20 points for Avila.

 

Evangel led 22-16 at halftime. Avila started the second half with a 9-2 run taking with 15:32 remaining in the game. The Crusaders pulled back in front moments later and trailed again.

 

The Crusaders improved to 20-5 and 13-2 in the Heart of America conference. They maintained a one-game in the conference over Culver-Stockton and MidAmerica Nazarene, their next two opponents. Avila dropped to 8-17 and 3-12 in the league.

 

Evangel is at home on Saturday and will honor their senior players before the game as part of Senior Day. Evangel takes on Culver-Stockton Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Ashcroft Center.
